It's embarrassing how long it has been since I updated this page. It's been more than a year!!!! Anyhoo! Here is an update on a friend of mine....

A few days ago I returned home to find my red eared slider, Pokey, pinned between the glass and drift wood in the aquarium he shares with Stinky- a yellow bellied cooter! He was floating, and his limbs were uncharacteristically freely drifting from his body. When I took him from the tank, I could tell he was alive, but just barely. The only sign of life came from him blinking his eyes. Turtles can drown if they are under water for too long...He must have been under for a while and used a lot of his energy struggling to free himself. Normally, turtles will snap at you or they'll recoil their limbs into the scoot (shell) in fear. Pokey was so exhausted that he could do neither of these. Worried that he needed oxygen in his lungs, I blew air into his nostrils (left)- yes, CPR for a turtle!!!...I half expected him to turn into a prince...but no, he just needed air and rest...so I placed him in a shallow bowl of warm water (so he couldn't drown but could stay moist) and placed a light over him...

Now he is doing fine! He and Stinky still beg for food, snap at me when I go to feed them and swim about a newly organized tank....

poison ivy

I told Aunt Diana and Uncle Don about the newest boat I've made (they didn't see it the last time it was on the website), and here is a picture of it....It's the "Poison Ivy"- made of Okoume plywood (hull) and cedar strips (deck)...I should probably work on a wooden paddle, but school is eating up a lot of my time right now...In this picture, I paddled it to an island on the Susquehanna  for supper (I bought ribs and mashed potatoes from the "Pork Palace"- very similar to Mom's- stewed ribs) and to write a letter....
